In recent years, I've started taking tabletop roleplaying games, which have been a long time hobby of mine, and tried a new approach, where I rework stuff I've come up with to try and make a product out of it that someone else might also then use. Previously, I felt that since I was happy doing all the work for this hobby, that others were likely to do so as well; I didn't think the things, additional/alternate rules or other game mechanics I came up with were meaningful, interesting or helpful to anyone besides me.
When a new avenue opened up to distribute/sell such products, that would likely garner a lot of attention, I decided to give it a shot, in the hopes I would at least get some precious feedback. The work I've published so far is all available on a "Pay-What-You-Want" basis. As for getting that feedback I was hoping for – the platform ended up getting quite oversaturated very quickly, so it's easy to get lost in the midst of everyone else vying for the same thing.
These have been interesting projects and granted a little insight into what it would be like to be an author, as well as doing all the layout and design work myself. I'd consider these passion projects that I'm quite proud of and they do look nice and spiffy if I do say so myself.
Displayed above: the covers and a couple of spreads from Planar Passages, my most recent publication on dmsguild.com, where my RPG design work is available. Two previously published titles are mentioned on the back cover: Lords of the Nexus and Six-Shooter.
Here is a better look at one of the spreads in Planar Passages. The diagrams depict a complex network of interplanar connections adventurers can exploit to travel between different planes of existence. You know... that old fluff.
Designing infographics is an interesting challenge in my opinion. It's something that when I come across it having been done well, I have to stop for a minute and admire the results.
